Our mission is to empower residents, businesses, and other institutions in revitalizing local neighborhoods. Our guiding principles are to promote independence and self-sufficiency, encourage individual and community leadership, and improve quality of life for all. Our work is to foster affordable housing, social services, and economic development. The Divison of Real Estate Management and Development is responsible for carrying out JCECDC's mission providing quality affordable housing opportunities to folks priced out of the private market.
To date, JCECDC has built 166 units of affordable housing throughout Jersey City. Since 2004, JCECDC has been prioritizing the development affordable home ownership housing for low and moderate income families and the development of housing for special needs populations. Since 2004, we have created a new pipeline of 145 units of affordable housing with over $36 million in development costs. Of this pipeline, 34 units have been completed, 13 units are currently under construction, 46 units will break ground by between 2009- 2010, and 42 units are in planning for a construction start in 2011. The pipeline includes:
- Old Bergen Road- located at 109-11 Old Bergen Road with 6 units of permanent supportive rental housing to be completed in August 2009.
- Houses of Hope- located at 177 Clerks Street with 6 units of permanent supportive rental housing to be completed in July 2009.
- 167-169 Monticello Avenue- 7 affordable condominiums with 2,000 square feet of commercial space to start construction in August 2009.
- 120-122 Monticello Avenue- 6 affordable rental units with 7,000 square feet of commercial space to start construction in September 2009.
- The Van Brunt Homes- located at 15-17 Oak Street, 34-40 Van Nostrand Avenue with 10 units of affordable housing to commence construction by December 2009.
- Neighborhood Stabilization Program- Between 2009-2010, JCECDC will acquire 20-30 scattered site foreclosed units, rehab them and sell them to moderate income buyers.
- St. Johns Senior Community- located at 120 Summit Avenue with 40 units of affordable senior housing to break ground in 2010.
By the end of year 2009, JCECDC will have completed 172 units of affordable housing since its inception. JCECDC plans to complete an additional 150 units of affordable housing by 2012. JCECDC is now the premier non-profit affordable housing developer in Jersey City.
JCECDC has experienced and continues to experience rapid growth. JCECDC now serves an estimated 2,500 persons each year.
