HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR HOUSING PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
To date, The Division of Real Estate developed approximately 145 units of affordable rental housing. In May 2004, we completed our first home ownership project with the Eugenia Suthern Homes located at 80-82 Storms Avenue READ MORE . From 2004-2007, JCECDC has established a pipeline of 44 units of affordable housing with financial commitments and land secured, to be completed by year end 2008 READ MORE . This includes the construction of 12 two family homes, 14 units of permanent supportive housing and a mixed use development with 6 units of rental housing. This effort equates to a real estate investment of over $8 million in Jersey City neighborhoods in just 3 years. The beneficiaries are working class and low income families that cannot comfortably afford to buy or rent decent housing in the private market. Our staff is working diligently to plan another 200 units for 2008-2013.
The Division of Real Estate also offers a first time home buyer education programs that serve approximately 100 households annually free of charge. The program provides a 7- session course covering critical aspects of home buying and provides 1-1 counseling to participants. READ MORE .To date, over 200 individuals have graduated from this program. In the first quarter 2007, eleven individuals were able to purchase their first home.
The Division of Real Estate has been able to establish key public and private sector partnerships that have allowed it to sustain the adequate staffing levels to maintain and expand housing production (link to Our Partners).
