More Success Stories!

James Moss is currently one of the Peer Outreach Workers for Hudson Creating Alliances to Shelter All (Hudson CASA). We first came to know James when he was staying at the Belmont Shelter after being homeless for 14 years. His great dream, if he ever were to have a permanent roof over his head, was to help other people who were homeless. He was able to qualify for a housing subsidy through the Shelter Plus Care Program that JCECDC operates, and under the guidance of the Hudson CASA program he secured the Social Security benefits he was eligible for. As a part-time peer counselor/outreach worker at Hudson CASA, he spends all of his time helping others to realize their own dreams.

“T” managed to live for 10 years in his van. He described himself as a “tough old bird” but by the rime he reached age 62, he found that his multiple illnesses wouldn’t allow him to get through another winter.  He met a case manager at Hudson CASA who gave him the hope he needed. She helped him get Social Security benefits, medical treatment, and an apartment he can afford. While he waits for senior housing he has a safe place live while he pursues once again his life-long interest of photography.

“O” came to Corpus Christi Ministries 8 years ago. HIV positive and homeless, she had no where else to turn. While staying at CCMH, she obtained the medical and psychiatric care she needed to get healthy and stable. Through the support of CCMH staff and peers, she began doing volunteer work and became very active as a community advocate for others who are HIV positive. She recently left our services to move on to a more independent living arrangement, but still maintains close connections with her CCMH “family”.
